solar rocks!

I got this stupid duper adorable solar frog fountain from amazon last week!

Solar is just so awesome. No plugs, no batteries, just plain, natural sun power. I want to buy everything solar. Not sure where in the garden im going to put it yet, but im sure i will find the perfect place.

And if i dont, it can always be turned into a cat water fountain :)

.....Or a cat hand washer. Dammit Dexter is just too cute!

2013 garden day #1

Remember that fluke weekend a couple weeks ago (prior to all this snow bullshit) when it was like 70 degrees and sunny? Yeah, i only
remember because i have the pics....

Gardening has multiple benefits: exercise (which anyone who knows me knows i hate!), getting some color (so i don't look like an albino all summer), and getting to eat fruits and veggies that you grew yourself! Don't forget that we are eco-friendly and all about sustainable living around these parts!

So most of my backyard is weeds, no grass, just weeds! Last summer i spent countless hours "weeding" just to have them grow back the next week. This year i have decided im not dealing with that bullshit again. now im going to just lay the old wood from the shed down on the ground and then fill it with soil. im so damn smart :)

Then i have these ugly ass stones. thanks to pinterest im going to spray paint them with glow in the dark paint so that they "charge up" during the day and then glow at night. What did we do before pinterest???

First i have to dig up all the stones, then i probably need to clean them, then i need to decide how i want to arrange them after i paint them. i wonder if it will be nice enough out this weekend. fingers crossed.....

check that awesome farmer's tan!!!

winter, you're drunk, go home.

All i want to do is go and dig in the garden, is that so much to ask??

I guess i can start with what i did last year, my first year of gardening EVER!

This is from the day i bought my house.

My dad and i tore down what was supposed to be a shed and kept all the wood. I used the leftover wood to make raised beds as lumber is expensive as hell!

I put strawberry plants in the small one at the top, then veggies in the big one, then sunflowers in the little square one. I never really had a plan, just kinda build beds as i went a long. I lined them with screen in attempt to keep the weeds out. I knew as my first year trying to grow anything that this would likely be a failed experiment. What i did find out is that if you plant it, it will grow.....
And in just a couple months, it did!

I am one picky vegetarian....notice no tomatoes :)

So growing was the easy part, it was getting to eat any of them before the birds, animals, bugs, or slugs got to them first. I think i got one strawberry, one pepper, and a couple zucchini and squash. bastards!

The process of gardening is my favorite part....obviously i would have loved to eat some of what i grew, but nothing beats being in the sunshine all day with iced coffee in hand and the music blasting!
And Dexter was always there to lend a helping paw, or just look cute, or shit in the garden :)
MEOW.

Finished!

Here it is! The finished product turned out awesome!

I used super glue to attach the cards to the table (and glued my fingers together in the process).

Hopefully it will be nice enough outside this weekend so i can put on a couple of clear protective coats.

I even put my gold card on the corner as my signature :)

Starbucks gift card table update!

So i stopped by MY starbucks  (yes, My starbucks, the one i go to where they know my name and my drink) on the way to work like i do just about every morning and asked my barista what they do with the used up starbucks gift cards....

He pulled out a huge bucket and dumped them in a bag for me!

I think this should be enough to cover the whole table. I cant freakin' wait!

Finished product coming soon....

ask and you shall receive

So, i had a blog a couple years ago that lasted a couple months and only contained a couple posts. My life was pretty boring back then...not that its much less boring now, but i have become more creative in how i live my boring life :)

Now that i am a homeowner, and the creation of the ever-so addicting pinterest , i have lots of opportunities to do lots of cool shit!

My first completed pinterest project was a super cute and DIY coffee table!

Im not going to lie, this was more work than i thought, but i think it made it that much more rewarding when it was finally complete. I just bought for crates from Michaels, (using a coupon for each one, of course) and then went to the local home depot, which is thankfully walking distance from my house and got some cherry colored gel stain. Thankfully there was a really nice old guy you thought i was funny so he was extra helpful in giving me advice on what to use and recommended the gel as it is easier to work with.

On a sunday morning, i got up, got my daily starbucks, and got my stain on! Be sure to wear gloves! No one told me that and i walked around looking like a got a bad spray tan just on my hands for a day or two...

After everything was dry i used my handy dandy electric screwdriver to screw those bitches together. easy enough! it was too short just sitting on the floor so i took some scrap wood leftover from a shed that my dad and i had taken apart a couple months prior and made some legs!

The finished product turned out great! Everyone that comes over loves it and there is plenty (maybe a little too much considering all the clutter that has gathered) storage. The only issue i had was with the top. Its not very conducive to setting shit on, which is the purpose of a coffee table, right?

This leads us to coffee table phase 2, which i actually just came up with last night....

I had gotten some starbucks gift cards for christmas and my birthday and random other occasions that were all over the damn place. I decided last night that i was going to gather them all up and register them on my gold card....turned out that i had quite a lot!

This left me with lots of left over gift cards with no money on them. Then it came to me, a coffee table lined with coffee gift cards! I'm a fucking genius!

So i went to my local starbucks this morning and asked them to save the gift cards that people have used up and just have them trash. woohoo! I even had someone offer to send me some from hawaii :)

Hopefully I'll have an update on this one sooner rather than later!
